Tuesday Sept 20

Last week in class we started off watching clips from the movie Razor's Edge. I have never watched this movie so i am not sure what was happening in the beginning, but a guy name Darrell went off to the war with three of his best guy friends. During the war one of his friend gets killed. From then Darrell started to act differently, talk differently and he just didn't come back the same. He had a fiance, but after the war he didn't want to marry her anymore. Fast forwarding to Darrell finally being able to smile and see someone, she gets killed.
Darrell goes to his ex fiance.

Darrell: You killed my fiance?
Isabel: You killed my fiance too? I still love you...

they quoted something like that.

Glenn wanted to point out what traveling can do to your life.

Another topic we talked about was life.
What should or How do you think we should live life?
I believe life should be lived like we never lived a day in our life.
But that is no reason to live life in greed or vengeance.
Live life in harmony and peace.
Don't regret anything.

i remember talking about this picture. but i dont remember what we really talked about. but just that this picture is over exaggerated.

Chapter 4

The Visual elements.

The painting above on the left is a painting of Mary, John the baptist and Jesus. This painting is called The Madonna of the Meadows by Raphael.
This picture is symbolizing the triangular whole. I like this picture because i could tell what Raphael shows what is important through colors and shades. He makes our eyes go straight to Marys feet, showing how pail it is considered how her skin color is a little darker.

The second picture is a picture of Mary, Saint Anne, Jesus, and John the baptist. This painting is called The Virgin and Saint Anne with the Christ Child and John the Baptist by Leonardo da Vinci. Leonardo uses different type of brown in this painting. He makes the faces white to show they are important.

I like these two painting honestly because they both have Christ Jesus in them.
Shows that even back in history people knew who Jesus was. Even though these painting just reminds me of Catholics, and im a Christian. I see that we at least share one thing, Jesus Christ.
These two painters used lighting, shades, and shapes to help our eyes look into the direction needed.

Chapter 3 continue

Themes Of Art!!

The first picture on the left is called The Dream, by Henri Rousseau.
When i first looked at the picture i thought of Adam and Eve. Even tho Adam isn't in there.
But i liked how the painting was on a woman, animals, and plants.
Nature with a woman is always pretty.
Even tho I am not a fan of nude people paintings, I liked this picture.
I wouldnt want to hang this picture up in my house.

The next painting is called The Oxbow by Thomas Cole.
This painting caught my eyes because it had to do with nature.
This picture shows the ugly and beautiful side of nature.
The picture may not come out peaceful but this is how nature is, its not always peaceful, pretty, or settle.

These two pictures of nature aren't very pleasing but they caught your eyes for some reason.

Chapter 3

Themes Of Art!

The first picture from the left is a mosaic and ceramic tile, by Nasr al- Mulk mosque Shiraz.
This picture is different from our text book but has the same tools to create such art.
This piece of art caught my attention because its really fascinating. If i had a mansion i would love to to have these mosaic art pieces in a big dinning hall. A place for a fancy ball or something.
But i would definitely want this kind of art in my house.
In the text it says that during the 19th century, these kind of paintings we're discouraged for religious reasons from representing human and animal forms. I am not sure how the mosaic art represents human and animal forms but if it was a religious thing, i wouldn't be able to have it in my mansion house . :(

Now the second piece of art is the upper chapel sainte- chapelle in paris.
From the text i believe if i read correctly this was made specifically for the king.
This picture caught my eyes in many different reasons.
One just how beautiful it looks, even with the candle light lit up, and when the sun is out how the colors that would show.
Two i liked this because it really makes you want to live in a big mansion, makes you feel like a princess :)
I would love to fall asleep in this room, i would never mind sleeping on the floor.
To me this would be like looking up at the stars at night.

These two pictures really bring beautiful colors out and happiness on someones face.

Tuesday 9/6/11

Tuesday 9/6/11

I walked out of class with just two questions stuck in my head.
What is art? and What is realistic? We talked about several things being art and realistic.
A desk? love? feelings? and etc. We even watched several movie clips in class.
But what is art. How do you know if things are realistic or not.
Can love be realistic? What about dreams?

We also learned about the broken lines on some of the ancient art figures.
And about how a 17 year old boy who found a cave.
In that cave there were art drawn on the walls and he explored the place and found a
candle holder with broken lines on them.
I find this very interesting because obviously someone before him found that place. But the question is how long ago was it since someone had stepped into that cave before the boy?

I wish i could be the little boy who found the cave. Maybe i would be famous like him and centuries from now teachers would be teaching there class about me :)

What is art? Chapter 2

Chapter 2
What is art?

Two art artist i admired in chapter 2 were Hathor and Sety and Claude Monet.

This piece has been done by Hathor and Sety.
Just doing a painting on the Egyptians is a plus for me.
I like how they show a story line in the art piece.
There will always be a big picture with small detail stories around or
next to the big picture.
Here in this Hathor and Sety focuses on the hands.
They focus on how the hands are angled and not in a row.
The hands are evened off and makes it look like Hathor has two right hands
and Sety has two left hands.
These pictures are interesting to me because i feel like there could be so many different meaning to the picture.

This picture was done by Claude Monet, called Fisherman's Cottage on the Cliffs at Varengeville.
Pictures that look peaceful and lovely is always a plus to me too.
This picture is to just show peace and beauty.
When i first took a look at this picture all i could think about was how that is a lovely home, how i would love to go visit that place for vacation.
Monet was able to succeed in art and had his art pieces put up in museums. All his life he worked on painting. When i get a house i would love to put some of Monets paintings up in the house.

Last Tuesdays Lecture.

Last Tuesday I learned about many things.
We learned a lot of people different kind of arts.
The ancient time period had a lot of effect in art in.
A lot of the art pieces or made are in museums today. These pieces of art
all had meaning or stories behind them like the angel and the saint. Hearing that story was very confusing because the angel was shooting an arrow to the saints heart? But then again art does not have to make sense.
We also saw a lot of sculptures made by hand that we still have today. I was very speechless looking at the sculptures, makes you wonder how long it took and how they could have done such a great job even on the details.
We also learned how art from the ancient time can still be used today, like the Trajan titles.
That was really nice to know because i had no idea about how many movies can come out with the font Trajan.

Chapter One homework assignment!

Chapter One
First homework assignment,

The first two artist i picked were by Juan de Valdes Leal and Vincent Van Gogh.

The first picture was done by Juan de Valdes Leal.
I like his pictures because their are meanings behind every piece of art in the painting.
He likes to say "Life is fleeting, and everything we prize and strive for during it is ultimately meaningless. Neither wealth nor beauty nor good fortune nor power nor knowledge nor fame will save us when we stand before God at the end of the world." I like how he can draw everything we humans have or want as our prize possession. He also includes skulls or signs of death in his painting to show that when we die, all our items die too. Juan is very interesting artist to me.

Now the second picture is by Vincent Van Gogh.
Vincent Van Gogh is actually one of my favorite artists.
Since elementary our school teachers had us draw the The Starry Night.
Vincent Van Gogh said "...we take death to reach a star." Like Juan he talks about death.
Vincent Van Gogh shows it differently tho.
Vincent Van Gogh exaggerates the stars to point out that the stars are important.

In these two art work, these artist shows how what they see in there eyes, what they think through there painting. They both have similar thoughts but just shows them differently through there art piece.
